Reasons for sleeping and waking up early.

Evening at 9 - 11pm: is the time for eliminating unnecessary/ toxic chemicals (detoxification) from the antibody system (lymph nodes). This time duration should be spent by relaxing or listening to music. If during this time a housewife is still in an unrelaxed state such as washing the dishes or monitoring children doing their homework, this will have a negative impact on health.
Evening at 11pm - 1am: is the detoxification process in the liver, and ideally should be done in a deep sleep state.
Early morning 1 - 3am: Detoxification process in the gall, also ideally done in a deep sleep state.

Early morning 3 - 5am: Detoxification in the lungs. Therefore there will sometimes be a severe cough for cough sufferers during this time. Since the detoxification process had reached the respiratory tract, there is no need to take cough medicine so as not to interfere with toxin removal process.

Morning 5 - 7am: Detoxification in the colon, you should empty your bowel.

Morning 7 - 9am: Absorption of nutrients in the small intestine, you should be having breakfast at this time. Breakfast should be earlier, before 6:30am, for those who are sick. Breakfast before 7:30am is very beneficial to those wanting to stay fit. Those who always skip breakfast, they should change their habits, and it is still better to eat breakfast late until 9 - 10am rather than no meal at all.

Sleeping so late and waking up too late will disrupt the process of removing unnecessary chemicals. Aside from that, midnight to 4:00 am is the time when the bone marrow produces blood. Therefore, have a good sleep and don't sleep late.

THE TOP FIVE CANCER-CAUSING FOODS:

1. Hot dogs
Because they are high in nitrates, the Cancer Prevention Coalition advises that children eat no more than 12 hot dogs a month. If you can't live without hot dogs, buy those made without sodium nitrate.

2. Processed meats and bacon
Also high in the same sodium nitrates found in hot dogs, bacon, and other processed meats raise the risk of heart disease. The saturated fat in bacon also contributes to cancer.

3.Doughnuts
Doughnuts are cancer-causing double trouble. First, they are made with white flour, sugar, and hydrogenated oils, then fried at high temperatures. Doughnuts, says Adams , may be the worst food you can possibly eat to raise your risk of cancer.

4.French fries Like doughnuts, French fries are ma de with hydrogenated oils and then fried at high temperatures. They also contain cancer- causing acryl amides which occur during the frying process. They should be called cancer fries, not French fries, said Adams

5. Chips, crackers, and cookies
All are usually made with white flour and sugar. Even the ones whose labels claim to be free of trans-fats generally contain small amounts of trans-fats.

The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna
God has made different religions to suit different aspirants, times, and countries.
- from "The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna" (Abridged Edition): God-Intoxicated State
Love, Light and Peace...

MEDITATION TODAY:
When your mind has become controlled you have control over the whole body; instead of being a slave to this machine, the machine is your slave. Instead of this machine being able to drag the soul down it becomes its greatest helpmate.
The less passion there is, the better we work. The calmer we are, the better for us and the more the amount of work we can do. When we let loose our feelings, we waste so much energy, shatter our nerves, disturb our minds, and accomplish very little work.
- Swami Vivekananda
Discipline
Love and discipline go together. It is love alone which can give, the ability to correct, the ability to teach the right way, and the ability to discipline. Such love comes out and shines only when it is backed by self-discipline of the one who is giving this corrective discipline.
Taken from "Revealing the Personality", chapter "Discipline", pg 105,116 -Rev. Chariji
Giving
"What you give shall come back to you multiplied many fold." So one who cannot give love can never receive love. There is no use in looking for it like a blind man searching in a jungle for a black cat. It will never happen. One who looks for love, to be loved, is doomed to despair, to frustration, to disappointment and ultimately to destruction. Because he is, or she is, working against the law of Nature, the fundamental law of existence, the divine law that: "Thou shalt give."So, the spiritual life is not a life of getting and having, it is a life of giving and not having. My Master paraphrased it beautifully, when saying that a saint is not born to enjoy his life, but he is to be enjoyed by others. He gives.

PLAN WELL BEFORE DELEGATING ANY WORK
- Radhakrishnan ‘Chanakya’ Pillai (Kautilya’s Arthashastra in today’s corporate world)
Take any organisation and you are bound to find a boss who is frustrated with his subordinates. While a junior worker can be blamed for non-productivity to some extent, most of the problem is caused due to a lack of proper planning before delegating the work itself.
In Arthashastra, Chanakya had included a chapter on ‘Training of elephants’. He said: “In conformity with the appearance, he should give exercise to the gentle and the dull (elephant), and to the animal with mixed characteristics, in various types of work, or in accordance with the season.” (2.31.18)

So Chanakya calls for identifying a potential candidate as per its (an elephant in this case) nature and even according to the different seasons as it may affect the work which has to be given.
In human terms, we can understand how much thought has to be given to choose the ‘right person for the right job’.
After all, a mistake at this stage can create real frustration in the long run.
But how does one do that?
EVALUATE PEOPLE
This is the first step for effectively carrying out what is called man-management. Many bosses fail to do this. When an interview is conducted, an shrewdly written CV or resume can impress all. Even the answers and discussions in the interview itself may portray the candidate as promising one.
But there is a big difference between promises and actual delivery of work. Give yourself time before passing judgement on any person. Always observe and study a person for a minimum of three months (that’s what training periods are for).
Watch them closely and observe their strengths and weaknesses. You will get a better grasp of his nature, behaviour and potential output.
DIFFERENT SITUATIONS
A person who is very successful in one venture may not be successful if given another one in a different situation. Even the most successful salesman may fail when it comes to selling a different product or in a different region.
So understand that each person’s output is not guaranteed forever. Different situations and circumstances can change a person’s productivity and even performance. And you have to identify them.
DIFFERENT TIMINGS
Next, you really need to understand how a person’s output changes in different timings. For example, students generally learn much better if they study during early mornings.

That’s because the mind tends to become lazy later on in the day and, hence, memorising topics takes more effort on the student’s part.
Chanakya referred to this as “seasons”. So find out what are the best productive times for your subordinates and allocate work “...in accordance with the season!”
All successful businessmen and leaders know the art of delegating work. If you want to be a successfully man-manager too, then thinking, planning, studying and experimenting with human psychology will become essential.

MEDITATION TODAY:

Non-injuring has to be attained by him who would be free. No one is more powerful than he who has attained perfect non-injuring. No one could fight, no one could quarrel, in his presence. Yes, his very presence, and nothing else, means peace, means love wherever he may be. Nobody could be angry or fight in his presence. Even the animals, ferocious animals, would be peaceful before him.
Neither seek nor avoid; take what comes. It is liberty to be affected by nothing. Do not merely endure; be unattached.
- Swami Vivekananda.

'A Leader Should Know How to Manage Failure'

'A Leader Should Know How to Manage Failure' (Former President of India APJ Abdul Kalam at Wharton India Economic forum, Philadelphia, March 22,2008)

Question: Could you give an example, from your own experience, of how leaders should manage failure?

Kalam: Let me tell you about my experience. In 1973 I became the project director of India's satellite launch vehicle program, commonly called the SLV-3. Our goal was to put India's 'Rohini' satellite into orbit by 1980. I was given funds and human resources -- but was told clearly that by 1980 we had to launch the satellite into space. Thousands of people worked together in scientific and technical teams towards that goal.

By 1979 -- I think the month was August -- we thought we were ready. As the project director, I went to the control centre for the launch. At four minutes before the satellite launch, the computer began to go through the checklist of items that needed to be checked. One minute later, the computer program put the launch on hold; the display showed that some control components were not in order. My experts -- I had four or five of them with me -- told me not to worry; they had done their calculations and there was enough reserve fuel. So I bypassed the computer, switched to manual mode, and launched the rocket. In the first stage, everything worked fine. In the second stage, a problem developed. Instead of the satellite going into orbit, the whole rocket system plunged into the Bay of Bengal. It was a big failure.

That day, the chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization, Prof. Satish Dhawan, had called a press conference. The launch was at 7:00 am, and the press conference -- where journalists from around the world were present -- was at 7:45 am at ISRO's satellite launch range in Sriharikota [in Andhra Pradesh in southern India ]. Prof. Dhawan, the leader of the organization, conducted the press conference himself. He took responsibility for the failure -- he said that the team had worked very hard, but that it needed more technological support. He assured the media that in another year, the team would definitely succeed. Now, I was the project director, and it was my failure, but instead, he took responsibility for the failure as chairman of the organization.

The next year, in July 1980, we tried again to launch the satellite -- and this time we succeeded. The whole nation was jubilant. Again, there was a press conference. Prof. Dhawan called me aside and told me, 'You conduct the press conference today.'

I learned a very important lesson that day. When failure occurred, the leader of the organization owned that failure. When success came, he gave it to his team. The best management lesson I have learned did not come to me from reading a book; it came from that experience.

My Desire
"Everyone in the world should be able to sleep without fear, at least for one night. Everyone should be able to eat to his fill, at least for one day. There should be at least one day when hospitals see no one admitted due to violence. By doing selfless service for at least one day, everyone should help the poor and needy.
It is Amma's prayer that at least this small dream be realised."

-Mata Amritanandamayi Devi
Patients' Stories
Amma's inspiration is reflected in the services AIMS offers to its patients. Many patients are very poor, and are referred to AIMS by other doctors, branch ashrams and from Amma's medical camps. For many, AIMS is their last resort; they arrive there after years of spending all they possess on medicines and ineffective treatments. At AIMS, patients who are very poor are given free treatment, while others may receive concessions. The admissions staff screens every case.

Nurse Bala, from patient admissions explained, "The most important aspect is to be there for the patients and let them know we care. Free treatment is of no import if we cannot give kind words or a sweet smile, it is our behavior with the patients that counts.
The staff is genuinely concerned and even though we may feel tired and stressed ourselves, we try to give that compassion - the compassion of Amma - it is what Amma does, She inspires us, but we are only learning.
Sarayu, an ashram resident often visits patients. "Visiting the patients at AIMS is one of the most inspirational experiences I have ever had. For many people AIMS is nothing short of a miracle – giving them a second chance of life. The dedication of the staff and the gratitude of the patients rekindles in one the desire to serve others through serving Amma."
In Their Own Words: Patients' Stories
"My youngest son Sachin aged four years is having congenital heart disease. A few tests and investigations were performed in AIMS Hospital and a major cardiac surgery involving two procedures, was done successfully here. My child was saved most unbelievably from the jaws of death, for which please permit me to record my deep and heartfelt thanks.

"I am a coolie [temporary worker] in a soda manufacturing company. As it is a seasonal job, I hardly manage to make both ends meet with my paltry income. In these circumstances, we owe deep debt of gratitude to Amma who is the repository of compassion and goodness, for arranging to get this major surgery done totally free of cost."
- Francis, father of Sachin
"My son's operation went off well due to the grace of Amma. I would not have been able to muster such a big sum required for the heart surgery even if I toiled throughout my life as I am a coolie. In such circumstances my son became the beneficiary of the bountiful grace, compassion and love of Amma My family and I will be devoted to Amma throughout our life.

We are trying to slowly digest and experience Amma's divine love. The behaviour of each and every staff member was so excellent. I do not consider AIMS to be Amma's hospital, but Amma's ashram."
- Sudhir, father of the baby

"We are financially very poor. My husband is a coolie. We have to support five people with his income as we have two children aged 11 and 6 and his old mother. My younger daughter has some deformity in the leg and she is unable to walk. It is in these circumstances that we reached AIMS. I would not have been alive had this surgery not been done for me by AIMS totally free of cost, as we were at the peak of breakdown due to poverty.
We are indebted to Amma for saving us from the brink of disaster. We also thank all the doctors and sisters for treating us successfully. "
- Sheeja
"Shelmi is our second daughter. We are living in abject poverty and misery. We are living in a hut which has mud walls and a coconut-leaf roof. When we were living amidst all the problems, our daughter fell ill and we consulted a private doctor. He told me that our child is suffering from heart disease. He suggested that the child be taken to AIMS.

"Only after reaching here did we get peace of mind. Amma is a living example of compassion; She is the lamp which gives light to the poor. She is the Angel who knows no difference between the people belonging to various castes. People who come here without any hope, are sent back happy. We thank all doctors, sisters and other hospital staff who are instruments of Amma in removing our difficulties. "
- George and Sheela George, Shelmi's parents

"I have been sick and without a job for the last ten years. My wife, four children and I stay in a small house. Due to serious headaches, I was referred by the local hospital to AIMS. My treatment here was done well and I am quite all right now. For doing the procedure free of cost, my family and I feel indebted to respected Amma , the Ashram and to the staff of the Hospital.

"Actually words are insufficient for me to express my gratitude for being given the treatment free of cost." - Mohammed
Luke Musubile, age 13, from Uganda, underwent a heart valve replacement at AIMS. Luke's mother tells his story.
"When Luke was about four years old, he got very sick. When his hands, face, and feet started swelling, the doctors said he had a heart problem. He was being treated in a village hospital. So they referred us to the main hospital in Kampala, Uganda. They said he had rheumatic heart disease and that his heart valves had been spoiled.

"They started treating him with drugs and explained that he would need an operation. They referred us to Madras Hospital. The doctors told us the operation would cost 12,000 US dollars. That was too much for us. For many years Luke kept getting endocarditic infections and once he was in a coma for a month. Everyone thought he was going to die. Then we met someone who advised us to come to AIMS Hospital. Here the operation cost is much, much lower than anywhere else.
"For us it is a miracle because this boy has been sick for so many years. Often he would say that he wished he could go for an operation so he could be well. He didn't really realise how difficult it was to get the money."
"We think this has been the hand of God. It wasn't easy getting that money for this journey. But somehow God helped us. I also want to thank the doctors and the nurses here."

Monkey's Business
A monkey climbed the roof of a house and entertained the people who had gathered below to watch it, with its antics. After it had gone, a donkey who craved popularity climbed the roof and tried to perform the same tricks.
In the process, it dislodged and broke several tiles. The owner of the house was furious. His servants went up, drove the donkey down, and beat it black and blue. Actions that suit others may not suit you. Be yourself.

There are a few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies. Nisha
Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for survival. Check out the things that you can do with it:
((1))EMERGENCY
The Emergency Number worldwide for **Mobile** is 112
If you find yourself out of coverage area of your mobile network and there is an emergency,
dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you,
and interestingly this number 112 can be dialled even if the keypad is locked.
**Try it out.**
((2)) Have you locked your keys in the car? Does you car have remote keys?
This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone:
If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call
someone at home on their cell phone from your cell phone.
Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end.... Your car will unlock...
Saves someone fro having to drive your keys to you.. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other "remote" for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk).
((3))Hidden battery power
Imagine your cell battery is very low , you are expecting an important call and you don't have a charger.
Nokia instrument comes with a reserve battery. To activate, press the keys *3370#
Your cell will restart with this reserve and the instrument will show a50%increase in battery.
This reserve will get charged when you charge your cell next time AND...
((4))How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone?
To check your Mobile phone's serial number, key in the following digits on your phone:
* # 0 6 #
A 15 digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. when your phone get stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless.

You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use/sell it either.
((5)) Be careful while using your mobile phone
When you try to call someone through mobile phone,don't put your mobile closer to your ears until the recipient answers. Because directly after dialling, the mobile phone would use it's maximum signalling power, which is: 2 watts = 33dbi, Plz Be Careful, Message as received (Save your brain) Please use left ear while using cell (mobile), because if you use the right one it will affect brain directly. This is a true fact from Apollo medical team.

The greatness of a man is known by his simplicity.
Om Shri Gurubhyo Namaha.
Guruji Maharaj has done special puja and has blessed us all with this picture of Goddess parashakti which is to be placed in our Puja room and if we chant the beeja mantra given below 21 times daily with utmost sincerity we can fulfil all our genuine desires

Om Aim Kleem ka ae ee la hreem ha cha ka ha la hreem sa ka la hreem
Chant this mantra daily for at least 21 times daily for removal of all sufferings and seeking prosperity from Goddess Parashakti

Excerpts from Guruji’s blessings on Om TV Tuticorin
Om Parashakti Namo Namaha, dear bhakta koti, satsanga premi bhakta janaha, my salutations to all of you, good and bad things do not come from others, it is a result of your own sat karma and dushkarma . Each day from the time we get up till the next day (even in our sleep) we do lot of karma through our thoughts, actions, speech, etc and they can be good or bad. The almighty gives us seven chances to rectify our mistakes through seven janmas but we hardly realise this and blame him for everything and never thank him for the rewards and blessings he showers on us making our lives further miserable. One thing is for sure that the supreme power you may call it by any name is the most kind and benevolent energy which is ready to forgive our minor mistakes but we continue to do sin and sink ourselves deeper into worldly pleasures and continue harm others by our deeds and speech and actions. Just remember whatever we do would continue to be with us through our generations and our own janmas until and unless we do some good deeds to wipe off our bad debts it can not be written off. We got this human form due to our performance in our previous births but can be relegated to 84,00000 yonis or forms ranging from plants, insects, reptiles, mammals, etc if we do not improve our score. We can do puja, chanting, prayers, etc in whatever form or religion we may practice to get salvation and escape from this vicious circle of life and death. You can do annandhanam i.e distribution of food to the needy, do some charity, help others in need, be courteous, speak pleasant language, spread love, do not differentiate between people, there are thousands of things which does not costs you anything but which only you can do. So my dear devotees the solution lies with you as you are the problem. Mend your ways and make your life and others life happy and prosperous.

Lord Siva Stotra and about the Siva Lingam

A lingam can be movable " Chalam" or unmovable " Achalam" or both movable and unmovable "Chalachalam" . A lingam is a combination of a stem portion, which is the "Lingam" and a base or peetam called a "yoni". Of the stem 1/3 it's length is square, the second 1/3 is eight sides and the rest cylindrical. The square portion corresponds to "Brahma" the creative aspect of the absolute. The eight-sided figure corresponds to "Vishnu" the protective aspect of God and the cylindrical portion; the dissolution aspect of God corresponds to "Rudra". A combination of these is what is called a Shivalinga.

The Yoni peetam will consist of a circular lower and middle portion and a leaf shaped upper portion, into which the stem is erected. The Brahma portion lies in the ground. The Vishnu portion the yoni peetam and the Rudra portion above the peetam. In the Rudra portion a lotus bud formation with 3 lines is embossed and it forms the face. This is known as a Kriya_lingam and corresponds to a sculpted lingam. This has to be installed in temple; this is there for classed as an Achalaingam.

A naturally formed lingam or Swayambu lingam also falls under this category. Crystal, or ruby, or stone, rice, cooked rice, river sand, cow dung, butter, sandalwood paste, Rudraksham, flowers, Kusa grass, jaggery and flour can be worshiped and after worship, removed. These are known as "Kshanika" lingams. No proportions of size are requiring for these lingams.

Lingams made of metals such as gold, silver, copper, bronze, brass, lead, etc are known as "Lohaya" lingams. If they are of sandalwood, Ashoka, Devadharu, Ebony, Bilva etc the are known as "Tharuya" lingams.

Stone lingams are the suitable ones for temple worship. They can be classed as

1. Swayambulingam
2. Daivatham
3. Ghanapam
4. Aasuram
5. Suram
6. Aarusham
7. Maanusham
8. Rakshasam
9. Bhaanam.

A Bhaanalingam is what is installed at the Sri Rajarajeswari peetam in RUSH New York. It is oblong cylindrical stone found naturally in the river called Narmada. The stones used in making a kriya lingam are classed as male, female & neutral stone. Stones will resonate if struck with the handle of the chisel in the lower scale of an octave.

The Lingam is to be made with this stone. The Yoni peetam with a female stone and the base made with a neutral stone. The scale of a temple Lingam will determine everything from the size of the chamber that houses it, to the Nandi, to size of steps, gopuram and ultimately the size the temple itself. Every dimension will happen to be a fraction or multiple of the Lingam.Let we pray the Almighty.

Message, by Dr. N. Gopalakrishnan, Hon. Director, IISH
Let us convert the negatives into positives India is a nation which faced many negatives. Perhaps this is the only nation which faced many negatives total of which will be more than the negatives faced by all other people in the world. Here, we faced mainly from outside and exclusively because of the greatness of our approach, vision, outlook and heritage values, which others particularly the people of Semitic religion and also the politicians could not tolerate. Surprisingly our culture, heritage and values could withstand all these negatives and torture.
Now let us take another picture from our heritage on how we handled the negatives. Our great literature gives examples. Have you ever thought how Ramayana became such a voluminous epic, containing more than 24000 verses? Have you thought why the Mahabharata became the greatest and most voluminous book in the world having more than 1, 25,000 verses in it. How the Mahabhagavatha was created? You know Ramayana was literally created by Manthara, the negative character in the epic. She advised Kaikeyee to instruct Emperor Dasaratha , to send Sri. Rama to the Vanavaasa. Suppose she would not have advised so, what would have happened ? Answer is simple. Rama would have become the Yuvaraja in the next day and after few years automatically, he would have become the King of Kosala and would have coronated in Ayodhya, the capital of Kosala. After one year, all the people would have celebrated , the first anniversary of Rama's coronation, after five years the fifth anniversary of Rama's ministry. (Luckily there was not election during then) . So on the tenth year, the silver jubilee, the golden jubilee celebration etc., of the coronation would have taken place as usual. When Rama becomes old naturally at the age of 90 or so he, just like anyone else would have 'disappeared from the earth' for even. How much pages woul have been there in the epic Ramayana. At the maximum 25 pages.! Search the answer for the question, Who created the circumstances for writing the Ramayana ? None other than Manthara who is a negative player ! Is it not true that Sakuni created the similar circumstances Mahabharatha ? If Sakuni would not have played the dice with all his crookedness , are you not sure than Dharma putra would have won the play! If that happened will there be any compulsion for the pandavas to go the forest? If Dharma putra would have won the game naturally he would have become the king and celebration of first, fifth, tenth anniversary, silver jubilee and golden jubilee finally all the Pandavas would have gone to heaven one after the other. It did not happen.
Yet another incident in our history. You know the great king Pareekshit ruled Hastinapura. He knows every bit of dharma saastra. Unfortunately due to some aberration he put the dead snake on the neck of Maharshi Sameeka when the latter did not answer for the King's request for some water. This terrible negative of putting a dead snake on the neck of a Maharshi who was doing the thapas annoyed the Maharshi's son, Gavijaatha, and he cursed the king. "within seven days you the king will die by the snake bite! " This curse made the King Pareekshit to spend rest of the seven days most fruitfully which resulted in the creation of Mahabhagavatha.
Remember now, Sri Rama, Dasaratha, Lakshamana, Bharatha, Dhrutharasthra, Gandhari, Kunthi, Arjuna, Pareekshit, Sreesuka, Sameeka…..none of them are living. But the Epics Ramayana and Mahabharatha are still with us. We created the positive from the negatives.

We all know the English education system destroyed many of our cultural values and dharma. I would like to tell you now. Do not go on crying about it. Let us convert this negative into positive. As Swami Vivekananda could deliver his great lecture series in Chicago because of his fluency in English, Aravinda Maharshi could write Savitri, due to English fluency. Rabindra nath Tagore's writing when got translated into English , he got the Nobel Prize. Dr. Raman could get the Nobel Price because he could present his findings in English. Swamy Chinmayananda, Maharshi Mahesh Yogi, Swami Sivananda and many hundreds could deliver our cultural message to millions of the people world over because we could get the influence of English directly. Convert the negative into positive. Milions of Indian heritage books are getting translated into English so they are all subjected into research now a days. Many are applying the valuable message from our heritage because they are all available in English which are translated by Indians in the true spirit of the message, which is need of the day . Not word by word translation. This we Indians could do exclusively because of the knowledge of English which has almost become the universal language. Even we Indians have to use English for communicating with Indians of other states.
I mentioned the above lines to bring to your notice other messages also. Let the Govt of India and various State Governments do negative towards Hindus. Take this opportunity wake Hindus up and fight the negative. No dharma should sleep, people will wake up if and only if negatives are thrusted upon them. Change the negatives into positives. Use all the negatives created by the Christians, Muslims, the politicians and so on , to bring the Hindus together. Let us fight the negatives and convert them into positives. We should not get satisfied by merely by removing them. Each negative created is an opportunity for us. Each positive is a step for marching forward.
Do not weep, Do not cry, Do not boil your blood, Do not get out of control mentally or physically. Our nation is the nation of great heroes. Only one country which could take the sword for fighting with the foreigners for more than a millennia and also which could use the sahana sakti or the spiritual force for defeating the foreigners and the British !

Should we offer to god with mantras ?
Not a must. Many people are ignorant about mantras. There are many superstitions connected with the mantras. Mainly, the mantras are chanted as part of japa yajna, it can be a prayer, casual chanting, or chanting with pooja or during performing some acharas.
What are the mantras and how many types of mantras are there ?
Part of the above question has already been answered, remaining part I shall answer now. . Mananena thraayathe iti mantra = The one which protects when repeated chanting is performed is known as mantra. Any chanting can be equated with mantra. They have mantra effect or it is a music therapy type of effect.
What is the effect of mantras?
When a mantra is chanted in rhythmic tone/sound with its ups and downs, it creates a melodious musical effect in the brain/ body . This effect may be defined as the neurolinguistic effect. This effect could control or normalize the brain waves, heart beat, blood pressure, cholesterol level and adrenalin level. Much more than this can also be obtained in the course of studies undertaken by scientists, particularly psychiatrists.
Should we know the meaning of mantras ?
Remember the neurolinguistic effect can be derived even if you do not know the meaning of the mantras which is chanted very rhythmically. Hence one need not worry that he is ignorant of meaning also one need not understand the meaning of every mantra. (Like you can enjoy a song even if you do not know the language)
Is it good to know the meaning of mantras?
Yes it is good to know the meaning of mantra because if you know the meaning of a mantra, it has got an additional effect/advantage which is known as Neurolinguistic + Psycholinguistic effect .As you know that you can enjoy film songs of your mother tongue better than that sung in other languages, because you know the meaning also.
Is it true that lot of research work is going on in this subject?
Yes it is true that many studies are being conducted world over about the mantra therapy. Many scholars /psychologists are doing research and in depth studies on this subject and important results are also derived out. One of the famous professors Dr. T. Temple Tutler, of the Cleveland University, USA has conducted series of researches on the understanding and application of these effects which are remarkable.
Should we know the meaning of keerthan and prayers?
Yes it is important to know the meaning of the keerthans and prayers. Because they give psycho linguistic effect through psychological effect by knowing the message of the lines chanted as keerthans. For this knowledge of the meaning is important.
Is mantra chanting a religious activity or superstition?
The Neurolinguistic and Psycholinguistic effects are due to the production and spreading of curative chemicals (hormones) in the brain. These curative chemicals give smoothing and curing effect in the body. Thus mantra chanting is not a superstition/ or merely religious ritual . But for getting the chanting done, a force is provided by making it religious activity and connecting with spirituality.
What are the effects of mantra chanting?
The mantra chanting regulates the blood pressure. It affects the smooth functioning of heart. The cholesterol level is balanced so does the level of adrenalin in the blood. It affects directly the brain waves. Hence it is advised to listen or chant the mantras. It is has been suggested while doing stress full job, under psychological disorders, psychosomatic diseases, mental abnormality etc.
What are the physical abnormalities which can be controlled by mantras?
It has been reported that almost all the 150 psychosomatic diseases can be cured or intensity reduced by mantras. It can reduce the tension and stress in the working place and at home. It can directly cure the psychological disturbances. World over, in hospitals, workshops, training centers, spiritual centers, working places, production centers of the multinational companies, etc the mantra effect is used.
How mantra can be applied in our day to day life?
It can be used while driving, working in kitchen, working in the factories. It is commonly used in cancer hospitals. It is proved good to use in mental health centers. It is excellent for pregnant women to get Abhimanyu effect. It can give fantastic effect in children when they play or sleep. Even the mind can be tuned while under terrible depression during physiological problems, menopause , during old age, lonely times, harassed or confused situations.
Is there any relation between mantra and music?
Every mantra is directly music if chanted with sruthi. Hence mantra therapy is in a way music therapy. Mantras are known to improve brain functioning and mental analytical calibre.
What precaution should be taken for chanting mantra/listening to music?
The music/ song/ mantra should never be hard/ harsh/rough/ . The speed of chanting should have a smoothing and melodious effect . For example Gayatri mantra and mruthyunjaya mantra chanting should have a range of 4 - 8 times per minute, range of chanting the Om Na-mo Narayanaaya is 40 -60 and Om Namassivaaya at 38 – 68 times per minute.
What are the factors to be kept in mind while chanting mantras?
Chanting the mantras systematically at fixed times everyday can fetch very good result. In physics the time, space and observer are the three important factors influencing the result of everything. Here also the time, space and the person chanting/ listening mantras are the three important factors for deriving benefit of mantras.
Should the suddhi required for chanting a mantra?
Sareera suddhi, ahaara suddhi, mana suddhi, vaak suddhi and karma suddhi are essential for deriving the full benefit of chanting the mantra. Also the place should give calming and comfortable feeling. The ideal timings are the prabhata sandhya and saayam sandhya; Morning and evening. Group chanting is very good. Absolutely no mistake is expected in Vedic mantra chanting. Due to health reasons or old age if you are incapable of chanting the mantras, do not worry about it. Mantras are chanted for good and positive effects. Whether one is chanting the mantra or not chanting it, should not become a matter for discussion or problem for us. The ideal sound for mantra chanting can be maintained within radius of 5 meters. Chanting the Vedas in the Vedic way is not easy so it is advised to chant after learning under the guidance of a guru.
Why non Brahmin's should not chant mantras?
Whether someone is Brahmin or not a Brahmin is not a criteria. If you know the perfect chanting method. Then you are a Brahmin. There can be error if chanted without learning it properly. Hence it is advised not to chant Veda mantras without proper training.
What is the alternative if proper chanting is not known?
One should not learn Vedas from Cd's and cassettes. But can listen to Veda mantras from Cd's and cassettes. It can even be downloaded from website.
How many types of mantras are mentioned in our literature?
There are so many types of mantas. If one goes deep into the analysis of the mantras you can see a variety of mantras in different Vedas, Aranyakas, Upanishads, puraanas, itihasas, etc different type of mantras can be seen . Generally one can say that there are four types of mantras depending upon their sources. The Vedic mantras are those taken from Vedas. The puranic mantras those taken from puraanas. The itihaasa mantras are from two epics Ramayana or Mahabharata. The last one is karma mantras chanted as a part of the karma / prayer /prayaschitta /etc .
What is the specialty of Veda mantras?
Veda mantras have ten sruthees/ swaras/ tones known as udaattha, anudaattha, swaritha, repha, hraswa, pracheya, anunaasikaa, kampa, deergha kampa, plutha. It is not easy for someone to get training easily for the sruthi. Hence can be learned only through a vedic teacher or guru.
Can we learn the Veda through cassettes or Cd's? if not why?
One should not try to learn the Veda sruthi through cassettes or CDs because the difference of chanting in sruthies will not be clear for an ordinary student. If one is trained in the wrong way of chanting , then correction becomes impossible. Hence try to learn only through the Guru.
At what age the Veda should be learned?
Those who are interested in learning the Vedas, it should be done in younger ages. It is easy to get the sruthies / swaras at that age. Chanting Veda mantra means chanting with sruthi. Sruthi of Vedas is as important as its message and meaning. At least we should know that the sruthi and meaning are equally important. Since sruthi is important even without knowing the meaning one can chant or listen to the Vedas for getting the positive effects of the formation of curative hormones/chemicals in the brain .
Why sruthi of mantra is so important?
One should remember that even the meaning of the mantra may change if not properly chanted. Hence it is generally advised that one should not chant Veda mantra carelessly, .
How many years will take for learning Vedas?
It takes many years for learning the Vedas. Rigorous customs and rituals (rules) are to be followed during the period of learning. However in modern days the rigidity and strictness have come down. Hence it is possible to partly learn the Vedas depending upon the time available.
Does the learning of four Vedas follow the same pathway?
Learning Rig Veda , yajur Veda and Atharva Veda follow almost same pathway. Where as learning sama Veda is difficult. It is extremely difficult to follow different sruthies of sama Veda.. It may take about five years to learn (by heart) each of the three Vedas mentioned above . Much more is needed for sama Veda . if someone is interested to go through paata krama then again ten years required. Learning Vedas is a continuous process.
Which part of the ritual / on what type of rituals the Veda mantras are chanted or applied?
Generally the Vedas are chanted in each and every step in Yaagaas. But sometimes in poojas/ archanas and prayers also few lines/sookthas of Vedas are chanted. Majority of the mantras chanted in poojas and in temple rituals are not Veda mantras but are puraana mantras and karma mantras .
Who has written Veda mantra?
Ancient rishies whom we call mantra drushtara (more than 200) known as vedic rishies have written the Veda mantras.
How we will know the name of the author of each mantra?
RigVeda is a compilation of more than thousand sookthas. Each sookta is written by a Rishi whose name is mentioned with the chandas and the name of the devatha in the beginning of the sooktha. Hence by reading the sooktha or listening it, can give the name of the Rish who composed that sooktha.
When the Veda mantra was written?
Vedas are called anaadi . Hence one cannot give a correct date. Based on the astronomical lines given in Rig Veda and some of the Brahman-as, it is assumed that the last part of Rig Veda might have got composed in the present style during BC 4275 or so. The last part is of later origin and the first part can be of very earlier. So one can say that Veda mantras were composed many thousand years ago ? Some say it 20,000 year few have the opinion 50,000 years and some are of the opinions that it is millennia old !
If the age is not known then how can we follow Vedas?
It is not important when, where, how, who, composed the Veda mantras if one is not searching for the historical facts. For a common man, the positive effects and messages are important.
Can we give the names of some Veda mantras!/ sookthas?
Purusha sookatha, Sreesuktha, Bhaagya sooktha, Rudra, Chamaka, Navagraha sooktha, Gayatri manthra, Mruthyunjaya mantra, etc are few among thousands of the Veda mantras.
What are puraana mantras?
Puraana mantras are those mantras which are present in one or more of the eighteen mahapuraanaas or upapuraanaas. They can generally be chanted by anyone including ladies independent of caste and religion ( even though opinion varies) with sareera sudhi, aahaara sudhi, manasuddhi, vaak suddhi and karma suddhi.
What are the sruthies for puraana mantras?
In the puraana mantras, generally there are no rigid sruthies and rules for chanting. One can opt for their own ragas. The rules for learning the puraana mantras are not rigid, but one should have clear voice/sound, devotion and sincerity. Puraana mantras can be chanted for poojas or as prayers. Sometimes even as a time pass ( instead of thinking useless matters ) one can chant these mantras.
What are the examples of puraana mantras?
Lalitha sahasra naama, devi maahathmya, siva sahasranaama, ganesa sthothras, etc. are puraana mantras. for chanting puraana mantras just study it by yourself and go ahead ! . Do not ask any questions to any Pandits. He may give you so many rules which he or his guru might have fabricated by themselves.
What are the itihasa mantras?
There are many mantras, prayers and sahasranaamas (like Vishnu sahasranama) coming as the part of Itihasa, which can be chanted like Purana mantras during poojas, prayers, etc.
What are karma mantras?
Karma mantras are those mantras which are the Sanskrit lines/prayers/ Sanskrit statements/descript ions/ written or composed as poems/verses or as prose.
Please give one or two examples of karma mantra!
Deerghaayushman Bhava, kaayena vaachaa manasaa indriyairvaa buddhyaathmanaa vaaprakruthe swabhaavaa……….(another) ya: pateth priyatho nityam thrisandhyam sraddhayaanvithaa…….etc. All the phala sruthies of the mantras, many prayers, many praarthanas ( kaamya and moksha prarthanas) are karma mantras given in books connected with poojas, prayers, sookthas, etc. Some times you can eve see the karma mantras in Purana's /itihasas/ etc .
Can everyone chant this mantra ?
Yes ! The only condition for chanting these mantras is that one should have pancha suddhi. Sareera-ahaara- mana-vaak- karma suddhies are essential Women, Hindus, Christians, Muslims, Atheists, Progressives, Leftists, Rightists, Idyllists… anyone can chant.
Why there is difference of opinion?
Of course there are different opinions about this. Initially it might have started based on the suddhi of the individuals. Later on changed to caste lines. However logically everyone can chant these mantras with proper suddhi and knowledge. Because they are prayers written in Sanskrit language, instead of regional languages.
What will happen if we are not chanting the mantras?
If mantras are not chanted nothing will happen. Chanting mantra should become part (Bhaagam) of the life and it should not become a burden (Bhaaram) . If you do not want to chant the mantra , don’t worry. Don’t chant. While practicing the acharas or chanting mantra how much sraddha is required.
From where we should not take more information on acharas and mantras?
Do not search for knowledge from those who are not experts or from those who pretend that they know the subject. Do not go to fake astrologers or Vaastu experts or thaantric experts. They may mislead you. You can (or should) meet only good and sincere people who are well known in the subject area and who has modern scientific background. ( This is true even in modern medicine, engineering, ….also).
Dear friend if you are satisfied pls pass this to others , and if you not satisfied pls send this to others for criticism .. let them criticize

AUM BHOOR BHUWAH SWAHA,
TAT SAVITUR VARENYAM
BHARGO DEVASAYA DHEEMAHI
DHIYO YO NAHA PRACHODAYAT.
Summary of the Gayatri Mantra
Gayatri Mantra (the mother of the vedas), the foremost mantra in hinduism and hindu beliefs, inspires wisdom. Its meaning is that "May the Almighty God illuminate our intellect to lead us along the righteous path". The mantra is also a prayer to the "giver of light and life" - the sun (savitur).
Oh God! Thou art the Giver of Life,
Remover of pain and sorrow,
The Bestower of happiness,
Oh! Creator of the Universe,
May we receive thy supreme sin-destroying light,
May Thou guide our intellect in the right direction.
Gayatri Mantra in Sanskrit
Word for Word Meaning of the Gayatri Mantra
Aum = Brahma ;
bhoor = embodiment of vital spiritual energy(pran) ;
bhuwah = destroyer of sufferings ;
swaha = embodiment of happiness ;
tat = that ;
savitur = bright like sun ;
varenyam = best choicest ;
bhargo = destroyer of sins ;
devasya = divine ;
dheemahi = may imbibe ;
dhiyo = intellect ;
yo = who ;
naha = our ;
prachodayat = may inspire!
Origin, Benefits and Chanting of the Gayatri Mantra
Rishis selected the words of the Gayatri Mantra and arranged them so that they not only convey meaning but also create specific power of righteous wisdom through their utterance. The ideal times for chanting the mantra are three times a day - at dawn, mid-day, and at dusk. These times are known as the three sandhyas - morning, mid-day and evening. The maximum benefit of chanting the mantra is said to be obtained by chanting it 108 times. However, one may chant it for 3, 9, or 18 times when pressed for time. The syllables of the mantra are said to positively affect all the chakras or energy centres in the human body - hence, proper pronunciation and enunciation are very important. (http://www.eaglespa ce.com/gayatri_ audio.php)
All the problems of a person are solved if he/she is endowed with the gift of righteous wisdom. Once endowed with far-sighted wisdom, a man is neither entangled in calamity nor does he tread the wrong path. A wise man finds solution to all outstanding problems. Only those persons who do not think correctly find difficulty and take wrong steps due to foolishness.
Chanting of Gayatri Mantra removes this deficiency. The teachings and powers incorporated in the Gayatri Mantra fulfill this purpose. Righteous wisdom starts emerging soon after Jap(recitation) of the Gayatri Mantra is performed.
References to the Gayatri Mantra in Scriptures
Gayatri Mantra audio mp3 by Anuradha Paudwal(218K, 28sec)
The Upanishads (sacred texts) of Hinduism contain several references to the Gayatri Mantra.
Chandogya Upanisad 3.12.1
This entire creation is Gayatri. And the Gayatri is speech - for speech sings (gayati) and protects (trayati) this entire creation.
Brahadaranyaka Upanisad 5.14.4
The Gayatri Mantra is based on truth. For truth is based on strength. Strength is breath, and is based on breath. So, Gayatri protects (tra) the wealth (gaya) (the breath!) of those who speak it with earnestness and devotion. When one recites Gayatri on behalf of someone, it protects that person's breath too!
Brahadaranyaka Upanisad 5.14.5
This verse talks about the unbounded wealth contained within the four 'foots' of the Gayatri Mantra.
• The first foot (aum bhur bhuvah svaha) is said to be equivalent to the wealth contained in the three worlds put together.
• The second foot (tat savitur varenyam) is said to be equivalent to the wealth contained in the three main vedas.
• If one were to receive a gift extending as far as there are living beings that would equal the third foot (bhargo devasaya dheemahi).
• The fourth foot (dheeyo yo nah prachodyaat) is based on the glory of the sun, whose power and wealth remains unequalled and unrivalled. Hence, there is no amount of wealth that can equal the fourth foot of the Gayatri!
God Bless you all

(The author is a ‘leadership strategy’ trainer and consultant)

* # 0 6 #

Param Pujya Guru Maharaj ji Dr. PS Varadarajan

Sareera-ahaara- mana-vaak- karma suddhies are essential Women, Hindus, Christians, Muslims, Atheists, Progressives, Leftists, Rightists, Idyllists… anyone can chant
.

Aum = Brahma ;
bhoor = embodiment of vital spiritual energy(pran) ;
bhuwah = destroyer of sufferings ;
swaha = embodiment of happiness ;
tat = that ;
savitur = bright like sun ;
varenyam = best choicest ;
bhargo = destroyer of sins ;
devasya = divine ;
dheemahi = may imbibe ;
dhiyo = intellect ;
yo = who ;
naha = our ;
prachodayat = may inspire!

· The first foot (aum bhur bhuvah svaha) is said to be equivalent to the wealth contained in the three worlds put together.

· The second foot (tat savitur varenyam) is said to be equivalent to the wealth contained in the three main vedas.

· If one were to receive a gift extending as far as there are living beings that would equal the third foot (bhargo devasaya dheemahi).

· The fourth foot (dheeyo yo nah prachodyaat) is based on the glory of the sun, whose power and wealth remains unequalled and unrivalled. Hence, there is no amount of wealth that can equal the fourth foot of the Gayatri!
